Pakistan’s former captain and the ‘hot favorite’ among the candidates in the race to become head coach has been appointed as head coach and chief selector of Pakistan’s Men Cricket Team for a three year period.
The decision was made by a five-member panel that included Intikhab Alam (former captain), Bazid Khan (former cricket), Asad Ali Khan (Member of the Board of Governors), Wasim Khan (Chief Executive, PCB) and Zakir Khan (Director – International Cricket).
Pakistan Cricket Board break the news on their Instagram account earlier today posting the picture of Misbah-ul-Haq.
“It is very humbling for me to join a group of some of the very best to have coached the Pakistan national side in the past. It is an honor and more than that a massive responsibility as we live and breathe cricket,” Misbah said in a press conference.
“I know expectations are high, but I am absolutely ready and up for the task, otherwise I would not have thrown my name in the hat for one of the most challenging and coveted roles in Pakistan cricket,” He added.
Morever, on Misbah’s suggestion, former captain Waqar Younis has been appointed as the bowling coach by PCB of the national side for a three year cycle. Waqar had served as a head coach of national side twice before and remained very controversial in his approach with the players. We hope things to go smoothly in this tenure… Fingers Crossed!
Misbah, before the appointment as the head coach, was part of the Pakistan Cricket Committee that suggested to the board to not renew the contract of Mickey Arthur and the other coaching staff after Pakistan’s exit in the 2019 World Cup. Misbah then resigned from his role in Pakistan Cricket Committee and applied for the position of the head coach.
The first assignment for the newly appointed duo will be the home series against Sri-Lanka where the two sides will play three ODIs and three T20Is.
